| Alright, this is basic, but it came to mind, and I wanted to get some opinions from legitimate game creators.
Well, seeing how multiplayer games are becoming all the rage, and the increasing fascination (in America) with the dark, I think we could change the horror genre. You see, trying to survive, being scared, becomes all the more fiercesome once you can actually lose the game. It isn't left for dead, going through a level as a group, but you are trying to survive surprising and frightening situations, to make it out or be the last one alive. It should end with one survivor, and you should sometimes be treated by someone playing next to you suddenly dying. Players should be betraying each other for their own survival. Rare will you find someone you can trust. Maybe some sort of awards for amounts of times you win, to make it feel even more important.
What do you guys think? | |

| (You joined!! ) Well, I for one think it's a pretty good idea! Maby there could be different areas, such as a grave yard, haunted mantion, catacombs, an abandoned mine, etc. all connected to form a large "playing field" for the perpous you mentioned. We could realy do something with this. Mind expending? | |

| I agree. I'm not sure exactly of the plot, but I'll be thinking on it. I'll read a bit more Lovecraft I have at home for inspiration. | |

| A key mechanic also, to me, will be a lot of it being randomly generated and unpredictable, and the AI not always doing what "makes sense". You want people to have a different experience and think on their toes every time they play. | |

| Absolutely. I'd like the environment and music to be something like that of Stay Alive (I know that I'm technically not old anough to watch it, but, meh). I want people to scare themselves to death whenever they play the game. | |

| What ever it is, it needs to cause ghosts to go hay-wire and the dead to rise again! *Laughs mariacly* Perhaps some sort of "revenge of Satan" type thing... | |

| They could be captured? Every game starts with people in a cage, they escape and help each other. Since you can't guarantee a randomly generated game, maybe make a good number of maps? Some involving various ideas, and keeping it mysterious with some people playing wondering what they will encounter. Some will go for magic, some science, some more demonesque, some cultish. | |

| I was just thinking to have it start where they need to cooperate, get a feel for each other, see a bit of how each of them plays then get out into the big dangerous world.
I was thinking, randomly generated might not always create something frightening or with the right feel. Instead, a good number of premade maps of different situations might be key.

| This castle thing is a bit off topic, but it also gave me a good few ideas for mechanics and enemies to add in to make any horror game more eventful and frightening, and less predictable but not outright insane and illogical. http://www.newgrounds.com/collection/castle.htmlThe later ones are far better then the first, but you need the first to make watching the latter ones even matter. | |

| Thanks! ^^ I'll check it out for sure. Randomly generated enimise (and possible stuff like traps or bosses) would be pretty cool for a repetative (play again after you finish) game, 'cause it'll make it so that you'll never know what'll happend next. I like it!
I just had a plot idea. How about some psychotic Satanist traps a bunch of people in a small village with a bunch of houses, a mantion and a graveyard? Like, he builds traps, reanimates the dead and stuff. The village could be something that doesn't even apear on a map. A village full of run down buildings and crazy people. Maby some Satanistic plague wiped out the village, but its inhabatents were trapped in time, always existing and never aging.

| Probably, but if so, we'll have better graphics, a more intricate map and a better plot that any game that's allready used something like that. | |

| I'm ready to build more on this idea. I think, for a horror game like this, especially with a random generator, it will need a few well-made, versatile enemies. A few that will be a problem to the character's throughout their generated campaign, and a few which are more your fodder, less dangerous, but more numerous, and you actually kill them. For added horror, the fodder is normally more human, or exceptionally so, maybe just controlled or zombie-like, and others with you on the campaign could actually become these upon death.
I think it will also need some sort of hunter creature (maybe one player randomly becomes this at the start) a powerful beast, a sort of tracker, be it a werewolf or otherwise something dangerous and bestial. It should be present in the map, with a defined layer somewhere, and move about almost naturally, players being a prey unit for it just like other things on the map. It will strike in a guerrilla fashion, moving with incredible speed to suddenly strike then moving into cover, and will only go away if it takes a body with it (perhaps making it useful for players to be able to drag bodies of enemies or friends) or if it is severely damaged (probably later in the game.). Unless someone nears it's den, which will probably cause it to continually strike until they get away, and still keep it hunting them.
We may want either some sort of alien or satanic origins, allowing us to have a center (Hivemind/queen, or demon/Cthulonic entity/hellgate), even though each map will vary, it will give a sort of common format, along with a end goal. Some games may want a different system, but this allows space for change and still some uniformity.
We also need to decide the weapons.
